City of Farrell Plans New Amphitheater, Idaho Street Upgrades
FARRELL, Pa. — The city of Farrell this year will create a central gathering space for events, revamp its former main street in hopes of attracting new business, and take steps to clean up its neighborhoods.
An amphitheater will be built at Veterans Square at the corner of Spearman Avenue and Federal Street, with seating built into the hillside. The $308,500 project, funded by a grant through the state natural resources department, is slated for completion in mid-summer, according to Mayor Kim Doss. It will be used for live music performances and other events.
A paving project will improve Idaho Street – which was the city’s business district years ago – in hopes of attracting private investment. “It used to be our main thoroughfare,” says Mayor Doss, referencing the theaters and stores that once lined the street. Doss notes that when John F. Kennedy visited the city in 1960 while campaigning for president, he stopped on Idaho Street.
