Coaches Burger Bar Opens at Five Points
POLAND, Ohio — Coaches Burger Bar opened Monday in the Dollar General Plaza at Five Points, 9065 Springfield Road. The restaurant is owned and operated by Patrick Howlett and Stacy Sam. A grand-opening event is scheduled for July 27.
The new business was born from the gourmet burger trend that’s risen to popularity in nearby metros, such as Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Howlett, who worked eight years at the managerial level for a national pizza chain, says he is drawing inspiration from the various burger bar concepts while still creating a family-friendly atmosphere.
“From Pittsburgh’s Burgatory, to Bar 145 in Toledo and Michael Symon’s B Spot, the burger bar has really grown in popularity,” Howlett says. “And while some restaurants have brought gourmet burgers to the Mahoning Valley, I feel I can do it better.”
The 3,000-square-foot restaurant can sit up to 109 diners, including the patio,.
All of the half-pound patties are made from a signature blend of brisket, chuck and sirloin that was hand-picked by Howlett and Sam, is sourced out of Cleveland and delivered fresh daily. Turkey and garden burger patties are available by request.
Howlett expects the build-a-burger menu to be the biggest part of the business. Coaches offers fresh ciabatta, whole wheat, gluten-free, wrap shells and its standard signature bun.
Diners can also choose from eight signature burger variations.
Each month Coaches will honor a local coach, who will be welcomed with his/her family to eat for free at the restaurant. Focusing on local athletics is important to Howlett and Sam, whose children all participate in sports.
“It’s a way that we can show our appreciation to those who volunteer their time to local youth and athletics,” Sam says. “We know the positive impact a coach can have on children and this is our way of saying ‘thanks.’”
