Cohen & Co. Acquires Michigan Accounting Firm
CLEVELAND – Cohen & Co. Ltd., the 75th largest public accounting firm in the United States, has acquired GHD CPAs and Advisors, St. Clair Shores, Mich., Rob MacKinlay announced today.
MacKinlay, president of the private company services division of Cohen, noted the acquisition is his firm’s first entry into Michigan. While most of its offices are in northern Ohio, including one in Youngstown, it also has a presence in Wisconsin and New York.
GHD, founded in 1920 as Godfrey Hammel, Danneels & Co. P.C. serves the same types of clients as Cohen, MacKinlay said, and its employees “have a strikingly similar cultural environment rooted in Midwestern values.”
GHD will assume the Cohen & Co. name Feb. 1. It has 60 employees who serve privately held middle-market companies in greater Detroit.
Pro forma, the larger Cohen will have annual revenues that exceed $65 million and have more than 400 employees.
Cohen is based here and operates offices in Youngstown, Akron and Milwaukee. The company was founded in 1977 by Ron Cohen.
