Columbiana Port Authority Awarded Grant for $334K
WELLSVILLE, Ohio – A critical infrastructure grant for $334,800 was awarded to the Columbiana County Port Authority and the Columbiana County Economic Development Department for the village of Wellsville on Tuesday.
The grant along with a $79,400 Community Development Block Grant and $123,000 from a revolving loan fund will be used to replace four intersections on the lower-end of town in Wellsville that have been damaged due to heavy traffic, says Penny Traina, executive director for the Columbiana County Port Authority. The village of Wellsville will be able to repay the revolving loan back at 0% interest.
“Now that the Port Authority has been working in tandem with the Economic Development Department we’re able to be at the table at the same time and hearing the same project,” says Traina. “We like to thank the county commissioners office because without them we wouldn’t have the opportunity to be able to apply for these funds.”
The effort to find funding for this project was over two years in the making, Traina says.
It was a collaborative effort between Columbiana County officials, the Columbiana County Port Authority, the Columbiana County Economic Development Department, the village of Wellsville, and the Wellsville businesses who assisted in applying for the grants.
Construction on the intersections will begin in 2019.
