Comedian Returns Home to Tape Comedy Special

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A comedian with roots in the Mahoning Valley will tape an upcoming performance in his hometown and edit it into a show that he says will be available on Amazon Prime Video.

Andre “RudeBoy” Ferrell, a 2004 Campbell Memorial High School graduate originally from Youngstown, will headline two shows on Oct. 15 at Hopewell Theatre for his comedy special, “Andre Ferrell: Rude Awakening.”

Tickets to the taping shows are $34 and available at Eventbrite.com. The shows will be at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Ferrell has been in the U.S. Army since he graduated high school in 2003. Currently stationed at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., he has performed in clubs across the country, done spot work on television shows, and is also a comedy writer.

Joining Ferrell will be comedian Steven Curry, a fellow Campbell Memorial grad (class of 2004) who did a stint in the U.S. Marine Corps. Curry now lives in Chicago, where he is a barber by day and a standup comedian by night.

The shows will be hosted by producer-comedian E.J. Nonstop.

Ferrell started working as a comedy writer and performer 10 years ago. He bases his observational humor on his own life experiences.

“I talk about the military a little, but most of it revolves around my life and growing up, especially because now I have kids and am married,” he says. “It’s stuff that’s relatable.”

Ferrell has written humor for other comedians’ TV specials. When it came time to tape his own special, he knew he wanted to shoot it in Youngstown.

“I wanted to film it in my hometown,” he says.

“A lot of my family and friends have never seen me perform.”

But plenty of other people have.

Ferrell has done his act at dozens of comedy clubs and festivals and has appeared as an extra on the TV shows “House of Cards” and “Vampire Diaries.”
