Commuter Challenge to Encourage Other Modes of Transportation

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, in partnership with the Western Reserve Transit Authority, will present a Commuter Challenge to celebrate Bike Month and Air Quality Awareness Week.

The challenge encourages participants to commute to work in ways other than driving alone to help reduce air pollution.

On the Gohio Commute website, participants can log all their trips to work using alternative modes of transportation. A Gohio account is required. Participants also can link their accounts to the Commute Tracker app or Strava to have their trips auto record for easier logging.

The challenge is open to participants in Mahoning, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties and will run from Wednesday through May 31.

Eligible modes of travel include bikes, bikeshare, carpool, public transit, micro-transit, walking and scooters.

Prizes, sponsored by the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and the Healthy Community Partnership, will include a $200 gift card, a $100 gift card, a $50 gift card and six $25 gift cards. A minimum of five trips need to be logged during the month to be eligible for the prizes.
