Compco Purchases Former Fairfield Machine Buildings

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – Compco Industries has purchased the buildings and land that was home to Fairfield Machine Co. for $1.3 million.

Columbiana County Auditor records list Sonny Rose Investments Co., an investment arm of Compco, as the buyer.

Rick Fryda, president and CEO of Compco, said the Fairfield Machine property on Lower Elkton Road is outside the city of Columbiana, but the plan is to ask the city to annex it.

Fairfield Machine closed its local operations but continues to operate in Rockford, Saskatchewan, Canada, said Dave MacNeill, president. The company services spare parts and provides sales and assembly testing.

Fryda said Fairfield Machine’s former buildings offer solid manufacturing space of more than 27,000 square feet. Fryda said Compco, which is located nearby, needs additional space, but there are no definite plans for the property. He said the purchase is an investment.

Fryda said Compco bought some of Fairfield Machine’s remaining equipment at a recent auction. Others who bought equipment at the auction were asked to have it removed by Sept. 30 so Compco can begin using the industrial space beginning Oct. 1.

Fairfield Machine Co. was acquired by Saskatchewan firm Rockford Engineering Works Ltd. on Oct. 1, 2019. At that time, Rockford celebrated Fairfield Machine’s 65-year history in the design, supply and rebuild of competitively priced leading-edge pipe, bar and billet processing and handling equipment.
