Conkey Elected President of Walnut Grove Board

CANFIELD, Ohio – The Walnut Grove this week announced the election of Karen Conkey as president of its board of directors.

The Walnut Grove is the Mahoning Valley’s first inclusive and accessible 20-acre outdoor recreational facility. The nonprofit organization relies solely on community support, grants and fundraising events such as its annual Swing, Wine, and Dine, which takes place Feb. 24 at The Embassy.

Conkey has been on the board of directors since 2020, and has been instrumental in fundraising and landscaping maintenance of the playground. She initially joined Walnut Grove as a volunteer along with her late husband, Dave. She works as a special needs teacher at Champion Middle School and resides in Austintown.

“I’m truly honored to lead this organization as its next president,” says Conkey. “The Walnut Grove has meant so much to me over the last four years, and I am excited to see its impact on future generations.”
