Cookie Table and Cocktails Event to Return

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, – Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s 10th annual Cookie Table and Cocktails event will return this year after being forced to go virtual in 2021 because of the pandemic.

The popular fundraiser, which recreates the iconic cookie table that has long been a tradition at Mahoning Valley wedding receptions, will take place Feb. 26, from 6 to 10 p.m., at Assumption Social Center, 356 S. Belle Vista Ave., on Youngstown’s west side.

Masks will be required if not eating or drinking.

Cookie Table and Cocktails is the signature fundraising event for MVHS, raising money for exhibits and programming. It will feature a cookie baking competition for both amateurs and professionals, judged by a select panel of community figures. Stan Boney, longtime local TV journalist, will be the event emcee once again this year.

The cookie baking competition is now open for registration. Contact contest coordinator Traci Manning at 330 743 2589 or [email protected] for a registration form. The form can also be accessed at mahoninghistory.org.

The cookie categories are as follows: Best Ice Cream Flavor Inspired Cookie, Best Traditional Cookie, Best Use of Unique Ingredient, and Best Decorated Cookie.

Cookies will be judged on overall impression, consistency and flavor. Each cookie baker will receive one complementary event ticket and special recognition at the event. Bakers who do not wish to compete in judged categories are also invited to participate in this event.

A cash bar will be available and feature signature cocktails in keeping with this year’s Harry Burt-inspired theme of the soda fountain. Burt is the Youngstown native who created the Good Humor ice cream bar in the building that now houses the MVHS’ Tyler History Center, downtown.

After the buffet dinner by Assumption Social Center catering, musical entertainment and dancing will be provided by the Del Sinchak orchestra. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle, and silent auction.

Tickets are $65 per person, or $600 for a reserved table of eight, which includes preferred placement table location and a table sign. To purchase, go to mahoninghistory.org.
