Coping with Loss, Choffin Students Celebrate Life
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – After her son passed away in December 2021, Denise Zordich, assistant principal and dean of students at Choffin Career & Technical Center, decided to start the Celebration of Life program – a time when junior and senior students learn about effective strategies for coping with life challenges and loss.
Now in the program’s second year, timing was everything because Wednesday evening, a Choffin student lost their life in a shooting on the city’s West Side.
“I was surprised at how many of the kids came into school today, but I think they felt that this was a safe place for them to find comfort in grieving the loss of their friend,” Zordich said.
