Coronavirus Case Update: June 12, 2020
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health, as well as county health districts in the Mahoning Valley, reported 40,424 total cases of COVID-19. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 77,999 total cases in the commonwealth.
In Mahoning County, the ODH reports 1,576 cases, with 331 hospitalizations and 204 deaths. Mahoning County is fourth in the state for deaths and seventh in the state for the number of confirmed cases.
The ODH reported 642 cases in Trumbull County with 166 hospitalizations and 53 deaths. In Columbiana County, the ODH reports 914 positive cases, 138 hospitalizations and 55 deaths.
Of the total cases reported by ODH, 37,519 are confirmed. ODH reported 2,905 probable cases based on the CDC’s recently expanded case definition. There have been 6,814 hospitalizations and 1,745 patients in the intensive care unit. There have been 2,508 total deaths, which breaks down to 2,280 confirmed deaths and another 228 probable deaths under the CDC expanded diagnosis definition. The median age of those testing positive is 49.
Of those testing positive, 5,967 (15%) are health-care workers. To date, Ohio has conducted 520,813 tests.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 77,999 total cases, with 899 hospitalizations, 195 of whom are on ventilators. Since March 6, there have been 6,162 deaths in Pennsylvania. Of the cases reported, 75,800 are confirmed.
Of all tests conducted in Pennsylvania, 488,385 were reported negative. And of all positive cases, 73% have recovered (If a case has not been reported as a death, and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test [or onset of symptoms] then an individual is considered recovered, according to the health department’s website.)
According to the department’s hospital preparedness dashboard, 1,217 of the commonwealth’s ventilators are being used by COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients.
Mercer County has 114 total cases and six deaths with 2,138 negative tests, while Lawrence County has 86 total cases, eight deaths and 1,809 negative tests.
