Cortland Announces Business Attraction Package Program

CORTLAND, Ohio – Cortland Mayor Deidre Petrosky recently announced the launch of a Business Attraction Package program.

The goal of the program is to attract and retain small businesses in the city. The program includes discounts from a variety of local businesses to help offset the cost of creating or maintaining businesses in the city.

Through the program, discounts for businesses will include items and services such as promotional and marketing material, website design and management and facility maintenance services.

Jeffrey Jiang, special projects coordinator, said since the city is only property tax-based, it has limited funds when it comes to economic development. This led him to come up with the idea of bringing in outside businesses to support those within the city.

Planning for the program began in March.

“We are reaching out to companies we know are expanding, or want to expand, and seeing if we can get them to expand here in Cortland,” he said.

The city updated its strategic planning in 2021 and started its implementation in 2022, Jiang said.

“The importance of having a program like this is just to continue to sustain the businesses that we have, first and foremost,” he said. “We have amazing small businesses, but due to the pandemic, everybody’s feeling the workers shortage, the impact of COVID and things of that nature. We wanted to make sure we had something to give them.”

Partners for the program include:

  • Tip Promotional Products;
  • U.S. Safety Gear Inc.;
  • Excel Point Solutions LLC;
  • Innovation Exhibits Inc.;
  • Complete Pest Solutions;
  • TSK Landscaping;
  • TEMA Roofing Services;
