County, City, Jobless Rates Stay Steady
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Area unemployment rates in March were largely unchanged from the month before, according to data released today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
In Trumbull County, the 7.0% unemployment rate last month was consistent with the February rate, although down more than a full percentage point from 8.1% in March 2014.
In Mahoning County, the 6.6% unemployment rate was also unchanged from the month before, and down from 7.6% a year earlier.
In Columbiana County, the unemployment rate eased off slightly in March from the month before, 6.3% last month compared with 6.4% in February, and down from 7.4% in March 2014
In Youngstown, unemployment rose modestly in March, to 8.2% from 8.0% in February, while down from March 2014’s 9.3%.
Warren posted a modest decline over the month, from 7.7% in February to 7.6% last month, and also down from 9.3% a year earlier.
In the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, Ohio-PA metropolitan statistical area, which covers Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County in Pennsylvania, the March unemployment rate was 6.6%, up from 6.5% in February though down from 7.6% in March 2014.
For the Ohio-only portion of the MSA, the unemployment rate in March was 6.8%, up slightly from 6.7% in February and down from 7.8% a year earlier.
