COVID-19 Deaths Jump in Mahoning County

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mahoning County Public Health reports 28 deaths in Mahoning County from COVID-19, the disease spread by coronavirus, up from 19 the day prior.

Data released Wednesday afternoon by the health department shows the county has 305 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 138 hospitalizations. More than half of the deaths are among those 80 years and older, with those aged 60 to 79 making up 37% of COVID-19 deaths in the county.

Of those who have died, 96% have an underlying health condition, 43% are long-term care residents, and the median age is 79.

Columbiana County also saw a jump in cases, reporting 71 total, up sharply from 59 on Tuesday, according to data form the Columbiana County Health District.
