Dana Chorale to Tour South Korea in May
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Dana Chorale, a group of 25 Youngstown State University students and four faculty, will go on an 11-day musical tour of South Korea in May.
The chorale is schedule to visit five cities – Seoul, Cheongju, Samcheok, Changwon and Busan – and perform at three universities: Sejong University, Chungbuk National University and Changwon National University. The group will also have informal performances in churches and high schools. The tour is May 8 through 19.
The tour will be the first time an ensemble from YSU’s Dana School of Music has performed in Asia. The tour, under the director of professor Hae-Jong Lee, is a result of the Dana Chorale’s performance at the Prairie Center for the Arts in Chicago last April, where the group performed traditional Korean songs.
“The Korean audience and the news media were impressed with our performance and strongly recommended that we plan a Korea tour with a similar repertoire,” Lee said in a release.
The chorale’s final performance in Youngstown before leaving for Korea is March 31 at St. Columba Cathedral. The concert is free and open to the public.
