Vaccine Demand High as County Health Departments Prepare for Phase 1B Week 3

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — As Phase 1B of the coronavirus vaccine plan continues to roll out, area health departments are adapting to the high demand.

Starting Feb. 1, residents aged 70 and older will be able to register for the vaccine. Below is the most up-to-date information on vaccine providers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. The information can also be found at Vaccine.coronavirus.ohio.gov.

There are 11 locations in Mahoning County offering the vaccine, including five Giant Eagle locations. Giant Eagle launched a new online vaccine appointment scheduling tool at GiantEagle.com/covid.

In Trumbull County, there have been more than 7,000 residents attempting to register for the vaccine through the Trumbull County Combined Health District’s vaccination registration portal.

“We are trying to get everyone scheduled for a clinic date that have registered as quickly as possible,” the health district stated Wednesday.

“If you have registered, and have not yet been contacted by our agency, please be patient and be assured that if you left all of the required information, you will be contacted, but it could take up to several weeks from the time you registered before you receive a call, depending upon the amount of vaccine received.”

For week of Feb. 1 through Feb. 7, Trumbull County has 1,800 total aggregate doses. They will be distributed at 100 doses to each Giant Eagle Pharmacy, 100 to Mercy Health – St. Joseph Warren hospital, 200 to Trumbull Regional Medical Center, 800 to the Trumbull County Combined Health District and 100 to the Warren City Health Department.

In addition, the Ohio Department of Health announced Walgreens and CVS pharmacies will be receiving vaccine to be administered to age-eligible Phase 1B recipients over the next two weeks. Residents must contact those pharmacy locations directly to learn about registration.

They include Walgreens locations at 600 S. Mecca St., Cortland; 15 S. Main St., Hubbard; 5027 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles; 2249 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles; 504 W. Market St., Warren; 3390 Elm Road NE, Warren; and the CVS location at 3933 Parkman Road NW, Warren.

On Tuesday, the Columbiana County Health District announced a second line for vaccine reservations in response to “overwhelming response.” Residents may call 330 392 2210 or 330 429 5133 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to speak directly with a member of staff.

About two hours after announcing it was taking vaccination appointments, Salem Regional Medical Center announced just before 4 p.m. that it would accept no more appointments for its vaccine clinic on Feb. 4 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The clinic expects its supply of 100 doses to arrive next week, but they are all spoken for.
