Dixie Makes Music for Jay-Z and Beyonce

Derek Dixie, a 2000 graduate of the former Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown, coordinated the Jay-Z and Beyonce concert July 25 in Cleveland. Dixie has been the touring music director for Beyonce since 2012. He is responsible for planning the music compilation and flow for shows as well as scouting instrumental talent for special pieces when they’re on the road. He attended Youngstown State University before making his way to the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, from where he graduated and later taught audio engineering. His big break came when he appeared on Sean “P Diddy” Combs’ show Making His Band. He subsequently started a YouTube channel where he would upload his remixes of some of his favorite Beyonce songs, which caught the attention of the singer’s production team.
