Drexel Team Wins OH-Penn for Business Contest
HERMITAGE, Pa. – A team of students from Drexel University in Philadelphia is the winner of eCenter@LindenPointe’s fourth annual OH-Penn For Business contest.
The finalists, selected from more than 100 groups at five colleges in Pennsylvania and Ohio, pitched their ideas to seven judges at the business incubator April 16. The results were publicly announced Tuesday.
Oratio, the winning group’s company, developed a virtual reality platform to help customers overcome a fear of public speaking. The group, along with the second- and third-place finishers, won a cash prize and a three-month entrepreneurship boot camp and incubation at the eCenter.
Over the course of the summer, the Oratio team will go through a mentoring program, consulting sessions, ecommerce workshops and have a chance to pitch their idea to investors.
A group of students from Allegheny College in Meadville won second place with its pitch for Volta, a company that will design a device to reduce energy consumption in commercial and residential appliances.
Kinbox, a platform for nursing home residents to communicate with their families developed by a group at Grove City College, placed third in the competition.
