East Middle School Teacher Receives Fulbright Award

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Victor Arcenio, a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages teacher at East Middle School, has received a Fulbright Teacher Exchange award for the 2024-25 school year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Through the program, Arcenio is among more than 800 U.S. teachers, artists and professionals from all backgrounds who will teach, study and/or conduct research abroad for the 2024-25 academic year.

Those participating in the program engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for future partnerships between institutions.

Upon returning to their home countries, they share their stories and often become active supporters of international exchange, inviting foreign students to campus and encouraging colleagues and students to go abroad.

“It is a great honor to be selected for the Fulbright Teacher Exchange award,” said Arcenio, who has worked 21 years for the Youngstown City School District. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to bring diverse perspectives into the classroom and East Middle School. This experience will not only benefit my scholars but also foster global citizenship and understanding among cultures.”
