EGCC Honored by Ohio Treasurer for Financial Literacy Work
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eastern Gateway Community College is among January’s honorees for the Ohio Treasurer’s Compass Award, given to organizations to honor their work in financial literacy and empowerment.
Robert Sprague announced EGCC is one of three recipients of the Compass Award, along with two recipients from southern Ohio: Desco Federal Credit Union’s Reality Fair and Andrew Heimbach, a teacher at Wheelersburg High School.
“With Ohio’s economy and workforce rapidly changing to meet the demands of the future, the importance of financial literacy education for our state’s young people cannot be understated,” said Treasurer Sprague in a press release. “The Compass Award program recognizes the people and organizations creating comprehensive and innovative methods for equipping the next generation with the personal finance skills that will put them on the path to success.”
EGCC offers no-cost education to qualifying local students and equips those attending the downtown Youngstown or Steubenville campuses with the tools to become a viable part of the workforce. In turn, EGCC builds relationships with employers and students to expose students to a wide range of career paths.
