EGCC Places Its President, VP on Administrative Leave
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Jimmie Bruce, president of Eastern Gateway Community College, and James Miller, vice president and chief of staff, have been placed on administrative leave, according to WFMJ.
The television station reported Tuesday evening that an email was sent to faculty members notifying them of the situation and reporting that Mike Geoghegan, chief financial officer, is temporarily in charge.
The EGCC board meets Jan. 15, at which time more information is expected to be made available, WFMJ said.
Bruce was named president of EGCC in March 2015. At the time, he was vice president of academic success at Northwest Vista College, one of five independently accredited colleges within the Alamo Colleges in Texas. In August 2015, he became the fourth president of the community since its inception in Steubenville as Jefferson Technical Institute, succeeding Laura Meeks, who retired.
During his time at EGCC, Bruce has presided over the rapid growth of the Youngstown campus. In spring 2019, EGCC counted 5,500 Ohio residents as students, and another 14,000 out-of-state students, mostly taking courses online.
The college operates three buildings downtown: Thomas Humphries Hall, 101 E. Federal St.; its student services center, 139 E. Boardman St.; and the new heath and workforce education center, 101 E. Boardman St.
