Eight Utica Permits Issued in Ohio, Rig Count at 23
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued eight permits for new horizontal wells during the week ended May 13, all of them in the southern portion of the state, the agency reports.
Ascent Resources LLC secured four new permits and Gulfport Energy Corp. received three permits to drill wells in Belmont County, according to ODNR’s weekly update. Triad Hunter LLC was awarded a single permit to drill a horizontal well in Monroe County.
As of May 13, there were 23 rigs operating in Ohio’s Utica, up one from the previous week, ODNR reported.
To date, 2,506 permits have been issued in Ohio’s Utica, 1,990 wells are drilled, and 1,549 wells are in production, ODNR said.
There were no new permits issued in the northern section of the Utica, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio. Nor were there new Utica permits issued in neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
