Flashback Minis: Black-owned Businesses in the Mahoning Valley

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio– Black-owned businesses have been an integral part of the valley since the 19th century. These photographs show just a few of those businesses that have helped build a thriving economy including Hattie Hilson’s Beauty Salon, F.F. Armstrong’s Haberdashery, Allan Hood’s General Store and George Thornley’s Barber Shop.
