Flashback Minis: Dana School of Music

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio– The Dana School of Music is a vibrant part of Youngstown State University training students as professional musicians, scholars and teachers.

The school became a part of Youngstown College in 1941, however, its origins began in Warren more than 70 years earlier. William Dana opened the Dana Musical institute in 1869. It offered private lessons, as well as, curriculum leading to a degree.

Dana believed music should be studied for hours everyday and with the same seriousness as other academic subjects.
