Flashback Minis: Fredonia Wheel
This wheel comes from a 1903 Fredonia Runabout. The Runabout, built in Youngstown, also featured a one-cylinder engine that enabled the old automobile to reach speeds of 40 miles per hour.
Two Fredonias took top honors at a 500-mile reliability run from New York City to Boston in 1902.
The engine was designed by Charles T. Gaither who was considered a mechanical genius. Gaither, apressman for the Youngstown Vindicator, also helped in inventing a process for photo engraving images for printing.
