Flashback Minis: Helen Hart Hurlbert

WARREN, Ohio– Helen Hart Hurlbert was the publisher of the Tribune Chronicle for more than 50 years. Her mother, Zell Hart Deming was the publisher before her and was one of the first women in the country to be a publisher for a newspaper. Helen’s daughter, Zell Draz, would go on to succeed her as publisher.

Before the paper was sold in 1986, these three women ran the paper for nearly a century.

Lovingly know as “Boss Lady,” Hurlbert was a community leader and she strived to make Trumbull County a better place to live, work and raise a family.
