Flashback Minis: Trumbull County Courthouse Document

The Trumbull County Historical Society has a yellowed set of papers framed on a mantle. The aged paper, which is filled with signatures, led to the first documented step for the construction of what would become Trumbull County.

Many of the settlers didn’t have a plan for a political structure when they moved into the area in 1800. The document was created in 1803 to help begin the process, establishing the Trumbull County Courthouse.

Some of the signatures include Warren founder Ephraim Quinby, John Stark Edwards, who built the current housing for the Trumbull County Historical Society, and Niles founder James Heaton and Leonard Case, the founder of Case Western Reserve University and former clerk for the Trumbull County court of common pleas.
