Flashback Minis: Youngstown Kitchen Set
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio– This kitchen set is part of the Youngstown Kitchens line of porcelain steel cabinetry and sinks. The set make its home inside the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Arms Family Museum.
The Youngstown Kitchens line was made by Mullins Manufacturing Corporation which began in 1937 through the merger of two companies. Those companies were W. H. Mullins Company of Salem and the Youngstown Pressed Steel Company of Youngstown.
Both metal and wood kitchen cabinets were popular in the 1940s and 1950s. However, demand for more furniture-like wood cabinetry overtook porcelain steel ones in the 1960s. Once that trend took hold, the Youngstown Kitchens line was phased out.
