Jay Williams Speaks at ‘Unmute the Uncomfortable’
NILES, Ohio – Former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams, now president and CEO of The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, spoke on the correlation between community well-being and economic community development and the mental health challenges that are faced by many people in those communities at the “Unmute the Uncomfortable” event at the Eastwood Event Centre.
The event was held to promote change in the Mahoning Valley through education and awareness, focusing on racial equity, access and barriers to services and the stigma associated with mental health treatment.
“I am not a community health expert. But they asked me to come and talk about my work and experience in community and economic development and how communities mourn and communities grieve and communities have identities. And when you don’t address some of those things, it does have a correlation to some of the other struggles that the individuals of those communities have,” Williams says.
