Frediberto’s Mexican Restaurant Opens on the Strip in Niles
NILES, Ohio – Frediberto’s Mexican Restaurant opens today, adding early morning and late-night food options to the U.S. Route 422 strip.
Located just north of Eastwood Mall, the restaurant building – a former Taco Bell – has been painted white and red, making it highly visible and inviting.
Owner Freddie Davila comes from a family of restaurateurs.
“My father and uncle have been in the restaurant business in California since the 1980s,” he said. “We just opened our first one in Arizona, and [the Niles location] will be our first in the East.”
He recently moved to the Mahoning Valley, where his girlfriend is from.
Frediberto’s menu features breakfast burritos, combination plates, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, nachos and super fries.
In addition to its tried-and-true Mexican cooking, Frediberto’s aims to stand apart by appealing to early risers and late-night people.
It will be open, at least initially, from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.
“I’ve tried every Mexican place around here, and they all open around 11 a.m.,” Davila said. “One of the busiest times of the day for our restaurants is breakfast. We sell 400 pounds of bacon a week.”
The menu includes an array of breakfast burritos, ranging from $9.50 to $12.75. The most popular is the bacon, egg, cheese and potato, Davila said.
Frediberto’s has a drive-thru for quick service any time of day.
The restaurant is introducing Super Fries to the area, and Davila expects they will be a hit. The dish starts with French fries. It’s then topped with a choice of beef, pork, chicken, steak or adobada, and then cheese and other toppings.
Super Fries are popular in California, Davila said.
He also noted that no other eateries on the U.S. 422 strip stay open late.
While he expects to do a lot of drive-thru business, customers can also eat in the 32-seat dining room. Orders are placed at the counter.
Davila said he named the restaurant after himself but gave it a little bit more flair.
“My name is Freddie, but we wanted to put a Mexican twist on it,” he said.
Frediberto’s Mexican Restaurant is at 5191 Youngstown-Warren Road.
