Gantt Named First Vice-President-Elect for American College of Surgeons
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Dr. Nancy Gantt, Mercy Health breast surgeon and co-medical director of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, recently was named first vice-president-elect of the American College of Surgeons.
Gantt will join Dr. Beth Sutton, who will serve as president-elect, and Dr. Dennis Kraus, who will serve as second-vice president-elect. The term will commence in October 2024 following next year’s Clinical Congress, one of the world’s largest gathering of surgeons.
“It is an honor to serve as first vice-president-elect of the ACS,” Gantt says. “The ACS brings together surgeons from across many specialties with the goal of raising the standard of surgical practice and improving quality of care for surgical patients. I look forward to harnessing our collective leadership to continue advancing surgical care and education for the benefit of surgeons from around the world,” said Dr. Gantt.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and improve the quality of care for all surgical patients. The college is dedicated to the ethical and competent practice of surgery. Its achievements have significantly influenced the course of scientific surgery in America and have established it as an important advocate for all surgical patients. The College has approximately 90,000 members and is the largest organization of surgeons in the world.
Gantt has been in practice for more than 30 years and has held several ACS leadership positions. She is known for her contributions to surgical education and community engagement. Gantt also serves as chair of the AWS Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing women’s careers in surgery and addressing gender disparities among surgeons. She is a graduate of the University Of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh Hospitals and Clinics.
