General Motors Recognizes Sweeney as One of Its Best
BOARDMAN, Ohio — Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, one of the biggest dealerships in the area, was recognized Thursday as one of General Motors Co.’s best.
The Chevrolet zone manager for northeastern Ohio, Jackie Vessel, gave the dealership’s president, Doug Sweeney, three of the 247 awards, including the “Mark of Excellence,” which GM issues dealerships across the region.
It was the second straight year Sweeney has been so honored.
“This is because of his commitment to taking care of our customers, having outstanding customer satisfaction, as well as meeting our sales targets,” Vessel said. “This is a very prestigious award and we are very proud of him.”
Responded Sweeney, “We are just so blessed. You have to be operating on all cylinders. Nothing can be lax to win these awards because there are so few.”
Sweeney began working at the family dealership when he was 14 and dusted the shelves where car parts were stored.
Salesman Ray Ludt, who has worked eight years for Sweeney, says the reputation the dealership has earned makes it easy to sell cars on the 26-acre lot.
“Being in a GM town you have a lot more opportunity to sell cares here, especially when you work for the biggest and best dealership in the valley,” Ludt said.
Employees like Ludt and many others who work in the 50,000-square-foot showroom and service area make his job easy, Sweeney said.
“If we have any secret to success it’s our employees. They are both second to none.” Sweeney stated. Equally important is “the quality inventory” the dealership offers.
“We’re fortunate to be a Chevrolet Buick GMC dealer in this market and to be affiliated with the men and women at Lordstown that are building such great products.” Sweeney said.
