Girard Company Creates YSU Scholarship Endowment
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Altronic LLC, a division of Switzerland-based Hoerbiger Group, announced the Altronic Innovation-Martina Hörbiger Scholarship endowment for electrical engineering at the Youngstown State University Foundation.
“As a YSU engineering graduate, I can attest to the curiosity and excitement the engineering program sparked in me,” said David Lepley, Altronic president. “This scholarship aims to support and inspire the next generation of innovators who will drive technological advancements and sustainable solutions.”
The Altronic Innovation-Martina Hörbiger Scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate student majoring in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology maintaining a minimum 2.75 GPA.
With more than 50 worldwide patents, Altronic is a recognized leader in state-of-the-art digital ignition systems and engine controls.
Hoerbiger was founded in 1895 with the invention of the steel plate valve. In 1945, Martina Hörbiger helmed the company, steering Hoerbiger into international markets, diversifying its product portfolio, building a worldwide services network and establishing a framework for company growth that has continued beyond her leadership tenure and death in 1989.
“The Altronic Innovation-Martina Hörbiger Scholarship reflects both Altronic’s mission to lead and Martina Hörbiger’s driving spirit,” Lepley said. “With this scholarship, we hope to foster that same initiative in like-minded students and develop an ongoing pipeline of talent that we can draw upon for our business and to support the community at large.”
Paul McFadden, YSU Foundation president, said the university and foundation are grateful for Altronic’s long-standing tradition of supporting YSU students.
“This scholarship carries a special meaning; while providing critical financial assistance, it will also inspire student recipients to honor and carry the name of Martina Hörbiger, her spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship,” McFadden said.
