GM Lordstown Re-Certified as Built In Quality 3
LORDSTOWN, Ohio – Following an assessment by General Motors earlier this week, the Lordstown Assembly has be re-certified as Built In Quality 3, UAW Local 1714 has announced.
A part of GM’s Global Manufacturing System, Built In Quality assessments examine 29 factors including how workers handle materials, how spare parts are stored and how workers are trained.
“We’ve come far in a short period of time. But, the job is not done,” read a statement on the UAW’s Facebook page. “Now, we need to prove that we can sustain our status and BIQ-4 is just up the road. Joint Leadership is committed to support whatever is needed to complete this journey, let’s make it happen and solidify Lordstown as a contender.”
GM Lordstown was first awarded the Built In Quality 3 certification in 2013. The plant, where the Chevrolet Cruze is manufactured, employs about 3,000.
