Golden Star Austintown Cinema to Mark Anniversary with Discounts

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — After receiving a $2.5 million makeover, Golden Star Theaters Austintown Cinema reopened in August of 2020 amid a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic and sparse attendance.

With public confidence much higher now, the chain will celebrate the theater’s one-year anniversary Nov. 5-7 with free popcorn, discounted drinks and giveaways. A grand prize of two movie passes per week throughout 2022 will be awarded.

The celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 5 with a ribbon cutting.

All drinks will be $2 on Nov. 5, all popcorn will be $2 on Nov. 6, and all guests will receive a free 32-ounce bag of popcorn on Nov. 7.

Golden Star Theaters Austintown Cinema, previously Regal Cinemas, is in Austintown Plaza on Mahoning Avenue. The New Castle, Pa.-based regional theater chain took over operations on Jan. 1, 2020, and thoroughly renovated the building.

All 10 theater rooms now have reclining plush chairs. Two screens have RealD, a three-dimensional film technology.
Golden Star also installed new screens, digital projectors and surround-sound systems in all rooms.

Movies showing at the theater include “No Time to Die,” “Halloween Kills,” “Venom” and “Ron’s Gone Wrong.”

“The Golden Star Theaters Austintown Cinemas opening came at a challenging time for locally-owned movie theaters due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Joe Rethage, operations manager of the chain. “We look forward to formally welcoming our community back to Austintown Cinemas with this event and thanking them for their continued support of local, family-owned movie theaters,” he added.

With the addition of a new kitchen, Rethage said the theater serves hot food that isn’t typically on a movie theater’s menu, including pizza, hot dogs, chicken and potato wedges, and provolone sticks.

The Austintown Cinema also has a liquor license serving beer and frozen alcoholic drinks.

All seating is reserved and tickets can be purchased in advance at goldenstartheaters.com or through the mobile app.

Adult matinee tickets are $8.25, and adult evening tickets are $11. Tickets for children and senior citizens are only 50. Special discount days include Tuesdays, when tickets are $6; and Wednesdays, when tickets are $6.25 for all guests 60 years or older.
