Good Morning! Market Intel for Jan. 6, 2020

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The first full work week of the new year begins with local news about the retail mall industry – specifically the Eastwood Mall in Niles — just as last week was dominated by news about the Southern Park Mall in Boardman.

This morning the Cafaro Co. is scheduled to hold a press event to announce the arrival of Boscov’s, a family-owned department store chain founded in 1914 in Reading, Pa. A sign posted outside the former Sears space at the mall describes the announcing as “The biggest thing to ever open its doors inside Eastwood Mall.”

Last week the future of the Southern Park Mall topped the news. Residents expressed their opposition to an application to make designate the mall as a community entertainment district, and Anthony Cafaro Jr. admitted that it’s been a challenge to market the former Dillard’s space at the Boardman mall, which the Cafaro Co. purchased last year.
