Gorant Chocolates Halts Production Ahead of Ownership Change
BOARDMAN, Ohio – Gorant Chocolates has stopped production at its Market Street factory pending a sale to new, local ownership, the company announced.
The Gorant store on U.S. Route 224 in Huntington Plaza will close after Mother’s Day, and its inventory will be moved to the company’s corporate location at 8301 Market St., which will remain open, the company said in a news release.
The licensee stores in Austintown and Howland that operate under the Gorant brand will transition to private, individual brands in the coming months.
“While the sale is still pending, I am confident that the new, local owners will enhance the quality and traditions behind the Gorant brand,” said Joe Miller, one of the current owners. “This new team already has a strong commitment and track record in the Mahoning Valley.”
Gorant Chocolates was started by Charles and Sam Gorant in 1949. The factory location at 8301 Market St. was built and opened in 1977.
