Gotham Knight Comics Swings into Salem

SALEM, Ohio — Gotham Knight Comics is now open as the only comic book store in the city.

Owners Elaine, Mike and Christy Gere opened Gotham Knight on Friday and are hosting a grand opening celebration today at 10 a.m. at the shop, 127 Penn Ave. The Geres says their mission is to provide Salem with high-quality comic books with the hope of creating an interest in reading for the young, old and everyone in between.

Grand opening festivities include cupcakes, face painting for the kids and chances to spin a wheel and win prizes.

The Geres decided to pursue their dream of opening a comic book shop after losing their jobs during the pandemic, according to the announcement of the store opening. The owners worked with Sustainable Opportunity Development Center Inc. to make that dream a reality.

“[SOD Center Training and Downtown Development Coordinator Eva Slagle and Executive Director Julie Needs] were invaluable in answering all our questions and provided detailed information on how to start a new business,” the Geres said. “Our family is extremely excited to provide Salem’s community with high quality comic books. We also offer Funko Pops trade paperbacks and other collectibles. Comics are entertaining and create an interest in reading for the young and old alike. It’s going to be a fun day so hope to see you all there!”

The grand opening celebration runs until 7 p.m. For more information, visit GothamKnightComics.com, the company’s Facebook page or call 234 567 4540.
