Gov. DeWine Launches ReadOhio Initiative
WARREN, Ohio – Gov. Mike DeWine on Friday paid a visit to Warren G. Harding High School to discuss the ReadOhio initiative, a statewide effort to encourage improved literacy skills for all ages, including the implementation of curriculum aligned with the science of reading in K-12 schools.
With 40% of third-graders unable to read at grade level, Gov. DeWine said it is now time to go back to teaching with an emphasis on phonics-based skills. He says ReadOhio is not only for developing readers, but even those in adulthood who have not yet mastered this imperative skill to success.
“We know that reading is just a key to so many other things in life,” DeWine said. “We want every Ohioan to be able to live up to their God-given potential, and reading is an absolutely essential part of that.”
