Growth Report 1: Westminster College Takes A Bow on the Big Screen

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – As it entered the new year, Westminster College enjoyed its cinematic close-up with the release of “The Pale Blue Eye.” A significant portion of the movie was shot on campus and the New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, area.

“The Pale Blue Eye” is a thriller set in 1830 and stars Christian Bale. The Westminster campus stands in for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in the film. After a short run in theaters in late December, “The Pale Blue Eye” premiered on Netflix in January and quickly topped the streaming service’s most-watched films.

In 2022, Westminster unveiled its new cultural center that provides a dedicated space where students can gather to find support, encouragement and learn about the college’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

Westminster also announced the creation of the teachers fellows project that attracts educators from diverse backgrounds. Full-time fellows will receive two-year appointments, giving them the opportunity to develop their teaching skills and continue pursuing research projects.

Three new articulation agreements with Chatham University were developed in 2022, giving students more opportunities to fast-track their careers. Under the agreements, students can earn a master’s degree in psychology or counseling psychology; enter the doctor of occupational therapy program; and earn a doctorate in physical therapy.

Partnerships with the University of Costa Rica and Western Galilee College in Israel will provide affordable and transformative study abroad opportunities for students.

Looking ahead, registered nurses interested in earning a bachelor of science degree in nursing can now do so through Westminster’s new online RN-BSN completion program.

The program enables registered nurses with associate degrees to complete online coursework in topics such as leadership, pathophysiology, advanced assessment and community nursing at their own pace.
