Halcon: No Plans to Drill in Northern Utica

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Reacting to a status report issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources that said Halcon Resources is drilling at a site in Warren Township, the company responded Tuesday that it has no immediate plans to begin oil and gas exploration there.

Larry Helm, spokesman for Halcon, said the company was reissued a permit for a site along Layer Road in Trumbull County should it decide to activate its position there.

But he emphasized that there is no drilling activity at the site.

The ODNR identified the site as “drilling” in its weekly status report of oil and gas exploration in the Utica (READ STORY).

Halcon announced last year that it would suspend its drilling program in Trumbull County because of weak well production there. The company owns eight producing wells in the county.

Energy companies have pulled back from drilling activity throughout the Utica and other shale plays because of the drastic drop in oil prices.
