Five Well Permits Issued in Ohio’s Utica shale

Hilcorp Files for New Well Permit in Columbiana County

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Houston-based Hilcorp Energy Co. is seeking approval to drill a new horizontal well in Columbiana County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Hilcorp applied for a new permit June 13 and wants to drill a well on the Wertz property along Darner Road in Elkrun Township. The company also submitted applications to revise the location of two wells in the township, one on the Wertz pad and the other on the Johnston property.

The rig count in Ohio’s Utica stood at 19 for the week ended June 16, unchanged from the previous week, according to the latest data provided by ODNR.

ODNR did not issue new permits for horizontal wells during the week, the agency reported. It has thus far issued a total of 2,837 permits for new horizontal wells, 2,364 of which are drilled and 1,899 if which are in production.

There were no new permits issued in Mercer or Lawrence counties in western Pennsylvania during the week, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
