Hilcorp Secures Three Utica Permits in Columbiana County

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources last week issued permits to Hilcorp Energy Co. to drill three new horizontal wells in Columbiana County.

The agency issued just three permits total for the week ended June 30, all of them to Hilcorp. The wells are located in Elk Run Township – two of them at the Wertz farm and one on the Johnston well pad, according to ODNR.

These are the first new wells permitted in the northern tier of the Utica thus far in 2018, according to ODNR data. The last wells permitted in Columbiana County were issued in November 2017.

As of June 30, ODNR has issued 2,840 horizontal well permits, 2,370 of which are drilled and 1,904 are producing.

The rig count in Ohio’s Utica remained unchanged from the previous week at 19, ODNR reported.

There were no new permits reported in western Pennsylvania’s section of the northern Utica, which includes Lawrence and Mercer counties, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
