INSIDE LOOK: NLMK Walking Beam Furnace
FARRELL, PA – NLMK Pennsylvania held an open house for current and retired employees to demonstrate their new walking beam furnace.
The furnace uses less gas to heat steel slabs, puts out less emissions and increases the surface quality of the finished product that is shipped out to customers.
“It’s sized about the same – maybe just a hair larger, but about the same as our existing three furnaces,” says Bill Benson, vice president of operations for NLMK Pennsylvania. “The old three furnaces were 1960-1970 technology, so this is a huge state-of-the-art jump for this facility.”
