Insight Launches Scholarship Program for YSU Students
EAST PALESTINE, Ohio – Insight Clinical Counseling and Wellness LLC has partnered with Youngstown State University to launch the Insightful Empowerment Scholarship Program of East Palestine in response to a need for counseling professionals and the impact of the Feb. 3, 2023, train derailment in the village.
The scholarship program will allow Insight to provide funding for tuition, books, fees and parking for a master’s level YSU student in the counseling or social work programs. The program will not only provide care to the residents of East Palestine but also eliminate barriers to treatment and provide the chosen candidate an opportunity for advanced education, a news release states.
The program will award 10 scholarships over the course of 10 years. Scholarship recipients will also complete a professional internship at Insight where they will work with clients in the East Palestine area or surrounding communities.
Applications are open until May 1, with the first recipient chosen for the fall 2024 semester. Insight has experienced firsthand the effects of the derailment, with its office located 0.2 miles from the accident site and the influx of residents who have reached out to seek treatment.
“From Day One, we’ve advocated to ensure citizens of East Palestine and our surrounding communities have the quality mental health care that is critical during a crisis,” said Insight owner Jessica Oates, LPCC-S, PMH-C. “With this scholarship, we are taking that commitment
one step further by investing in the next generation of mental health professionals who can continue this important work in our communities.”
Founded in 2020, Insight offers a full continuum of services, including treatment in behavioral health, mood disorders, mental health, trauma and PTSD for individuals of all ages. It has eight locations and a team of 87 mental health and wellness professionals helping individuals, couples and families throughout the Valley.
