Mahoning Valley Irish Festival

Irish Festival Will Take Place at Wean Park

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley once again has an Irish festival.

The inaugural Mahoning Valley Irish Festival will take place July 29-30 at Wean Park, downtown. It will feature crafts, vendors, food, beer, live Irish music and dance, a children’s area and more, according to Shannon Lehn, chairperson.

Penguin City Beer will create an Irish red ale specifically for the festival, Lehn said.

The festival has already booked Irish bands County Mayo and Weekend at Blarney’s, as well as the Burke School of Irish Dance, Mahoning Valley Pipes and Drums, and the Irish Bard storyteller.

The price of admission has not been determined. Proceeds will benefit several local organizations, including the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society.

The Mahoning Valley has not had an Irish Festival for more than a decade, when the annual Gathering of the Clans ended its run.

Lehn said she and others decided to start the Mahoning Valley Irish Festival after attending a similar event in another city. She contacted JAC Management, which operates Wean Park, and set the festival in motion.

More entertainers, vendors, sponsors and donors are being sought for the festival. For information, go to mvirishfestival.com, email [email protected] or call Lehn at 330 770 6785
