JA Stock Market Challenge Will Be Oct. 25
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — – Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio will host its inaugural JA Stock Market Challenge Oct. 25 in Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration Weir Atrium.
Ninety high school students from Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana and Ashtabula Counties will participate in a high-energy simulation, turning Williamson into Wall Street.
Students, grouped in teams of three to four, will practice buying and selling stocks while navigating current events that can positively or negatively impact the market, and the importance of a diversified portfolio. Local business and community leaders will act as floor traders, working with the students to execute their trades. A total of 60 days of trading will take place with each day lasting one minute.
The schedule of events:
- 9—10 a.m., Dr. Chen of the Lariccia School of
Accounting and Finance and fellow alumni will host a panel discussion for participants.
- 10:15 a.m., Opening bell
- 10:15—10:45 a.m., Trading days 1 through 30
- 10:45—11 a.m., Break
- 11—11:30 a.m., Trading days 31 through 60
- 11:30 a.m. — noon, Lunch
- Noon —12:30 p.m., Awards
Trophies and scholarship money will be awarded to the top three teams in the competition.

Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley dba Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio, has been in the area since 1952. Junior Achievement programs deliver lessons in financial literacy, career and work readiness, and entrepreneurship, through experiential learning for K-12 students in Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties.
JA lessons are delivered by volunteers from the community, resulting in an enriched learning experience that helps students make the connection between what they learn in school and the world outside the classroom.
