JCC Names Katz Director of Early Learning Center
Ben Katz is the new director of the Early Learning Center at the Jewish Community Center in Youngstown. He spent the last two years as a science teacher at Akiva Academy and will replace Kathy Mioni, who will continue as the academy principal. Katz holds a master’s degree in education from Florida Atlantic University. “He is a seasoned educator with a passion for engaging children in experiential learning,” says Mike Rawl, JCC executive director. Katz is one of 31 JCC educators from the United States and Canada accepted to participate in the Sheva Center Leadership Institute for Early Childhood Professionals. The three-year program includes six retreats and two international study tours through Israel and Italy, each of which will incorporate aspects of the Sheva framework for excellence in early childhood Jewish education.
