Job Postings Decrease Across Ohio, in Northeast Region

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets decreased between June and July, according to OhioMeansJobs.

In Northeast Ohio’s 18-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties – 57,584 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between June 14 and July 13, the agency reported.

That’s a decrease of 5,150 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period but a 5,423 increase from a year ago.

Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 178,006, a decrease of 16,317 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent an increase of 13,798 from the same period a year ago.

Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 30.2%, and upper middle income, 28.6%; followed by six-figure jobs, 19%; entry-level jobs, 11.8%; and high-income jobs, 10.5%. Most jobs, 44.5%, require a GED or high school diploma, followed by 32.6% requiring a bachelor’s degree. Only 16.2% of openings request at least an associate’s level degree, 4.4% a doctorate and 2.4% a master’s degree.

The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 3,760; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 2,691; retail salespersons, 2,382; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 2,234; and customer service representatives, 1,135.

Statewide, most jobs are upper middle income, 28.8%, and middle income, 27.7%; followed by six-figure jobs, 21.9%; high-income jobs, 11%; and entry-level jobs, 10.7%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 41.4%; while 36.3% require a bachelor’s degree, 15.2% an associate’s degree, 4.5% a doctoral degree and 2.6% a master’s degree.

The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses at 9,751; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 7,419; retail salespersons, 6,124; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 6,058; and stockers and order fillers, 3,447.
