Job Postings for Nurses Decline; Still Lead Valley

COLUMBUS, Ohio — OhioMeansJobs.com saw fewer job postings for registered nurses in the most recent reporting period, but the occupations still leads postings regionally and in the state.

A total of 315,719 job openings for all occupations were posted online from Dec. 14, 2021, to Jan. 13, which is up 3,561 from the previous reporting period. Compared to the same time period a year ago, this reflects an increase of 113,379 ads.

Statewide, OhioMeansJobs posted 17,047 openings for registered nurses, which is down from 21,232 from the previous reporting period.

Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers had the second most job ads with 13,997, with first-line supervisors of retail sales workers (11,921), retail salespersons (9,744) and software developers, applications (7,859) rounding out the top five.

Of the total posted jobs, 26.5% list a middle income salary range of $30,000 to $49,000. Upper middle income jobs ($50,000 to $79,000) comprise 26.3% of posted jobs. Entry level jobs (less than $30,000) make up 15.8% of postings, high-income jobs ($80,000 to $99,000) 11.4% and six-figure jobs 20%.

Most jobs posted (41.7%) require a high school diploma or GED, compared to 38.5% that require a bachelor’s degree, 14.5% require an associate degree, 2.5% a master’s degree and 2.8% a doctoral degree.

The 18-county northeastern Ohio region, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, saw 107,609 jobs posted online from Dec. 14, 2021, through Jan. 13, which is up 2,662 ads from the previous reporting period.

In northeastern Ohio, job postings for registered nurses decreased to 6,499, which is down from 7,645 from the prior reporting period. A Feb. 25 search at OhioMeansJobs. for registered nurse positions within a 20-mile radius of Youngstown yielded 273 results.

Rounding out the top five occupations in northeastern Ohio were first-line supervisors of retail sales workers (4,892), heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers (4,358), retail salespersons (4,113) and customer service representatives (2,487).
